Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests to the Museum, field questions, and facilitate dialogue on the topics covered at Columbia River Maritime Museum.
- Lead guided tours through the Museum galleries with enthusiasm and fascinating tales.
- Encourage hands-on, inquiry-based learning for visitors of all ages, including lifelong learners visiting the Museum as part of a tour.
Characteristics and Experiences:
- This is a public-facing job working with visitors. Docents must be comfortable and eager to speak with large groups from a variety of backgrounds every day.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Museum’s galleries and be able to interpret them for the public.
- Must successfully complete the Docent Training Program, which is required prior to acceptance into the docent corps.
- Ability and willingness to learn the tour materials put forth during training
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn new material and self-educate
- Ability to adapt tour materials to individual audiences
