WE WORK WITH YOUR SCHDULE Blood Drive Volunteer Role Description The Blood Drive Volunteer will help to ensure that blood donors have an exceptional experience in a clean environment from the moment they arrive until the time they leave. Responsibilities Welcome and check-in donors Provide courteous and friendly communication and assistance to donors and staff Explain the donation process as necessary and answer any questions donors may have Assist with set up and help maintain cleanliness in Reception and Canteen/Hospitality areas Restock canteen/hospitality area and encourage donors to re-hydrate after donation procedure When applicable, may assist staff with reminder/cancellation calls, assist in re-scheduling donor appointments, and perform follow up activities as directed Qualifications/Requirements Must be 16 or older Must pass a Criminal Background Check Display a courteous and friendly demeanor at all times Comfortable working with people from diverse communities and backgrounds Reliable transportation Training Virtual Vitalant Volunteer Orientation Karen Arellano Volunteer Services Coordinator karellano-gallegos@vitalant.org (325)223-7511 Show Less

Volunteering to donate blood at Vitalant is one important way to join our lifesaving team, but we also offer other volunteer opportunities that make a difference in your community. Volunteer opportunities at Vitalant vary by region, but the impact is the same - your actions save lives by helping patients get the blood they need. Volunteer opportunities include: Refreshment area: Vitalant’s donation centers and blood drives have a refreshment area, also called a canteen. Volunteers manage the area, monitoring donor safety by making sure each donor stays for 15 minutes and enjoys a snack and drink to help replace lost fluids. Most importantly, volunteers make our donors feel appreciated by thanking them for transforming patients’ lives. Preregistration : Welcome and greet our donors. Help donors check-in advise on wait time. Handing out promotional gifts to donors. Please note: We can work with your schedule. REQUIREMENTS Background Check Must be at least 16 Orientation or Training No court-ordered community service allowed Every day in the U.S., patients in hospitals, surgical centers and emergency treatment facilities need approximately: 29,000 units of red blood cells 5,000 units of platelets 6,500 units of plasma Your role in the world matters. We are looking for Blood Drive Volunteers to attend mobile blood drives to welcome and assist blood donors with the pre-registration process as well as monitoring and thanking donors and serving refreshments after their blood donation. We invite all who are interested to share their excellent customer service skills. Here is a brief description of what to expect.
