Free Juice is a nonprofit organization accelerating diversity in the photography industry through mentorship; headquartered in Houston. Our mentorship program is primarily remote and networking events will serve BIPOC students and photo enthusiasts in Houston, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. We are seeking a board member to oversee our strategy and marketing efforts. Our ideal candidate will spearhead these efforts: Strategy: Supports the planning and execution of programs & events Identify and develop risk mitigation strategies associated with program execution Develop strategies and initiatives to build the Board’s infrastructure (e.g. Board competency matrix, organizational charts, dues model) Provide structural recommendations (including membership model, establishing the advisory board and mentorship application committees) Marketing: Implement tools to optimize social media management (Constant Contact) Recommend content strategies for marketing campaigns to increase impressions Draft copy language for social media captions Critical competencies for this position includes: Project management - assisting in developing tactical work plans for committees Collaboration - working with board members to identify external communications needs, partner with Executive Director & Creative Director to develop creative direction and content strategies Strategic Marketing - developing a marketing & communication plan to outline the objectives, strategies, and tactics for the organization’s operations Risk management - reviewing event logistics & legal contracts to identify threats and recommend risk mitigation strategies Fundraising - partnering with the Fundraising committees to identify plan and execute revenue generating programs & events (fundraising events and membership programs)

Free Juice is a young nonprofit organization accelerating diversity in the photography industry through mentorship. We will provide networking, resources, and guidance to support BIPOC photographers as they build their career. Entirely volunteer-run, Free Juice is seeking additional volunteers to expand our team. We’ve identified bringing on someone with a finance background as a high priority as we plan our initial programs and events. This position will work closely with the Executive Director and Leadership team. About the Role Free Juice is seeking a volunteer Project Manager to join our Board of Directors and provide program oversight as we build this dynamic organization. He/she/they will translate program calendar into actionable items for governing board, contractors and volunteers. The skills we seek will include: Task management & organizational skills. Previous nonprofit experience is preferred but not necessary. Sample Tasks - Translate discussion points during board meetings into actionable steps in project tracker - Conduct weekly or bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with board members to assess project progress - Relay an overview of project status at beginning of each board meeting, organized by complete and outstanding - Create calendar invites and reminders for projects using Gmail Time Commitment 8 hours/month - flexible with your schedule. The board meets bi-weekly to discuss updates. Board terms are for 2 years. Responsibilities of Individual Board Members Each individual board member is expected to: ● Determine, monitor, and strengthen the organization's programs and services ● Faithfully read and understand the organization's financial statements ● Actively prepare for and participate in board meetings held bi-weekly ● Make a personal financial contribution quarterly ● Advocate for the betterment of the organization ● Actively engage with the organization's communication, calendar, and events. ● Serve on and lead board committees ● Provide support for fundraising efforts ● Recruit new board members and assess board performance ● Support the chief executive and assess their performance ● Tenure: If you need to leave the board, you should remain in your position until a successor is elected

He/she/they will present annual budgets for the board to review and vote on, and make sure financial policies and practices are current and up-to-date. The skills we seek will include: Forecasting, planning, and analysis, as well as bookkeeping and financial reporting. Previous nonprofit experience is preferred but not necessary. Example Tasks Manage and delegate a team to ensure the organization's success Maintain compliance with IRS filing requirements Develop a budget for the organization's financial goals, and articulate a messaging outline to the Free Juice President Prepare and file financial reports Identify, scope, and manage contractors Audit Financial Statements Prepare ad-hoc budgets for grant submissions Develop organization's fundraising practices Lead annual review meeting in September Time Commitment 8 hours/week - flexible with your schedule.
