Free Juice is a nonprofit organization accelerating diversity in the photography industry through mentorship; headquartered in Houston. Our mentorship program is primarily remote, and networking events will serve BIPOC students and aspiring photo workers (those pursuing roles photography, photo editing, retouching, art/creative/photo direction, rep or production roles) in Houston, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. We are seeking people to serve on an ad hoc board committee tasked with planning for our next mentorship program (Free Juice University) and events. This role involves leading outreach and research initiatives to engage relative professionals into our community. The Ad Hoc Committee will meet via Zoom or Google Meet weekly on Sundays. Role Description: As a member of the Communications Committee, you will play a key role in shaping and executing our communication strategy to engage our audience in a positive way. The time commitment for this role is about 3-6 hours of volunteer time per week, which includes attending meetings with the Communications Committee and developing our communication goals into on-brand, relative social media posts. Responsibilities: 1. Collaborate with the Communications Committee to develop and implement communication strategies. 2. Assist in creating and curating content for our social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. 3. Develop engaging and on-brand social media posts to promote Free Juice events, initiatives, and mentorship opportunities. 4. Utilize graphic design skills, particularly in Canva, to create visually appealing content for social media posts and other communication materials. 5. Manage email marketing campaigns using platforms such as Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms. 6. Schedule social media posts and email campaigns based on community engagement and optimal posting times. 7. Monitor and respond to comments and messages on our social media platforms in a timely and professional manner. 8. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in social media marketing and communication. Qualifications: - Passion for people, mentorship, education, and the photography industry. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Creativity and ability to think strategically about social media content. - Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. - Proficiency in graphic design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. - Experience with email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact or similar. - Ability to schedule posts and campaigns based on community engagement. - Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment. - Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Headquartered in Houston, we're dedicated to fostering diversity in the photography industry through remote mentorship programs and networking events serving BIPOC students and photo enthusiasts across Houston, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. Role: Treasurer (Volunteer) As a Treasurer on our Board of Directors, you'll provide vital financial oversight, presenting annual budgets for board approval, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and keeping our financial practices aligned with our programming goals. Skills needed include forecasting, planning, and analysis, as well as bookkeeping and financial reporting. Experience in nonprofit finance is preferred but not required. Example Tasks: - Manage and delegate tasks to ensure organizational success - Maintain compliance with IRS filing requirements - Develop and articulate budgets to support our financial goals - Prepare and file financial reports - Identify and manage contractors - Audit financial statements - Prepare budgets for grant submissions - Develop fundraising practices - Lead the annual review meeting in December/January Software: - Quickbooks Time Commitment: Expect to dedicate 2-3 flexible hours per week, including monthly board meetings and occasional fundraising committee weeks. Responsibilities of Individual Board Members: Each board member is expected to: - Understand the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs - Review and comprehend financial statements - Actively participate in board meetings - Make quarterly personal financial contributions - Advocate for the organization's betterment - Engage with communications, calendar, and events - Reach out to potential donors - Serve on and occasionally lead board committees - Provide support for fundraising efforts - Ensure proper financial oversight and resources - Participate in organizational planning and monitoring - Recruit and orient new board members and assess performance - Enhance the organization’s public standing - Support the Chief Executive and assess performance Tenure: Board members are expected to remain until a successor is elected if stepping down.
