Dog Therapy is AdventHealth Littelton's pet visitation program. It is a socialization program that promotes patient health and welfare by using dog visits to comfort patients and minimize their separation anxiety and related stresses. To be accepted into this program, dogs must be a certified therapy dog through Alliance of Therapy dogs or Denver Pet Partners. Dogs must be at least 3 years of age, in good health, and friendly with young and old alike. The dog must be in a permanent home for at least 6 months prior to the program. The current minimum age requirement is 21 years old. Maximum age for the dog is 10. If your dog is not currently certified but you are interested in the process, you can visit www.therapydogs.com

Greet and welcome guest/patients at outpatient registration. Assist with registration process: making packets for the next day procedures, filing, light administrative duties. Escort patient to the correct department of the hospital. Visit with patients along the way. Make sure patient is connected to a person in the department before you leave. Cycle through the waiting room to tidy the coffee and snack area.

Obtain and review the daily surgery schedule. Welcome patients coming for surgery and follow check in procedures. Provide information concerning general hospital services regarding the surgery procedures and give assurance that hospital staff will provide complete information as it becomes available. Volunteer should never give medical information or refer to personal medical history. Answer incoming telephone inquiries. Direct visitors to appropriate areas of the hospital, escort if schedule allows.

Volunteers that are accomplished pianists will provide healing music to the hospital environment and our public space. We're always looking for the special combination of musical ability, taste and compassion. An audition is required before volunteer acceptance/orientation. (Mon - Fri between 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Consistent day and time - schedule is negotiated) Current minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
