Description The Ocala National Forest is seeking campground hosts for campgrounds on the Lake George and Seminole Ranger Districts. Volunteer campground hosts serve as an integral part of the recreation and visitor service teams and are often the first contact for information about the Forest. We rely on our hosts to set a positive tone, offer correct and concise information, and maintain a friendly disposition. Campground Hosts will regularly provide information about rules and regulations, recreation opportunities, and ensure our facilities are the positive face of the forest. Opportunities are available at the following campgrounds: Fore Lake Recreation Area : In the stillness of the morning fog, a red-shouldered hawk calls out with an echo across Fore Lake. Bounded by marshes, this lake in a scrub ecosystem is an excellent spot for birding from the shores of Fore Lake Recreation Area, where visitors can picnic and swim, or make a night of it in one of the 31 campsites tucked away between the saw palmetto and oak trees. Bring your fishing gear to make full use of the pier and canoe launch area. Fore Lake Campground is a quiet spot for camping on the western edge of the Ocala National Forest about 10 miles outside the city of Ocala. *Lodging is not provided. Volunteer must provide lodging (ie. travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome)* Campground Host Duties Greet visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude. Assist with campsite registration, answer questions, and assure compliance with regulations. Requested commitment time frame of 3-6 months Keep restroom and campsites neat and clean. Perform light maintenance of campsites and day-use such as trash clean-up, fire ring and grill maintenance, mowing, water system monitoring, and brush clearing. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized host site as an example to the visiting public. Represent the Ocala National Forest in a professional and courteous manner. Show a presence of authority and report any major issues to law enforcement and recreation staff. Keep recreation staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsite facilities, or maintenance needs. O'Hara Campground sits along the Selway River amid lush vegetation and old cedar trees. This is the largest campground on the Selway, with 32 sites, and makes a great base for exploring all the recreational activities and attractions in the area. T he campground sits at 1,600ft elevation and is located approximately 7 miles from the intersection of the Selway Road with US Highway 12. The Selway River is a destination fly fishing experience for cutthroat and rainbow trout and is also well-known for whitewater rafting. Several trailheads for hiking and biking can be accessed from Selway River Road and lead into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area. An 11 mile sightseeing drive from Lowell to Selway Falls offers visitors opportunities to appreciate the pristine beauty of the Selway Wild and Scenic River and picturesque Selway Falls. Host opportunities typically run from approximately mid May through mid September, with a minimum 1 month commitment (3-4 months preferred). Hosts volunteer five days a week, including weekends and holidays, typically working 4-5 hours per day/20 hours per week. Hosts are on duty in the morning and evening, during daylight hours. Days off are taken mid-week on Tues/Wed or Wed/Thurs. Hosts are not required to stay on site during their days off. Start/end dates and schedules are negotiable. The Methow Valley Ranger District on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is currently seeking to fill up to 6 Volunteer Campground Host opportunities for the 2025 season. Positions start as early as June 1 and end in October at the latest. Dates of camp host positions vary depending on the site. Sites include Blackpine Lake, Loup Loup, Chewuch, Poplar Flat, Klipchuck and Lone Fir. A free campsite will be provided for the Host(s), who must have a self-contained RV or trailer. Tools and supplies will be furnished by the Forest Service. Methow Valley, Washington With its big valleys, open wild spaces, high ridges and beautiful rivers, the Methow Valley Ranger District's 1.3 million acres extends from near the town of Twisp Washington to the crest of the Cascade Mountains in the Pasayten Wilderness. The area is renowned for camping, hiking, fishing, rock climbing and horseback riding. Each of the above available campgrounds are unique. Blackpine Lake is remote and features a beautiful non-motorized lake which is popular for swimming, fishing and paddling. Klipchuck and Lone Fir are within the beautiful and popular North Cascades Scenic Corridor between the spectacular Chewuch River and Twisp River respectively, and both offer tranquil forested campsites along the river. Loup Loup is situated between the Methow and Okanogan valleys amongst western larch trees, and offers nearby mountain biking, horseback riding and hunting. USFS staff will work with applicants to determine which campground will be the best fit. The hosts will be responsible for helping USFS staff take care of their assigned campground and are expected to work 5-hours per day. This includes routine maintenance such as site and restroom cleaning, being available to provide information to visitors and encouraging campground rule compliance. A subsistence reimbursement allowance is available and personal vehicle mileage will be reimbursed for work activities. Each host site includes propane, water and septic hookups. Only the Loup Loup Campground host site has electric hook-ups, but a generator or solar equipment may be available upon request. Most sites do not have cell phone coverage, but a USFS radio and training will be provided. The closest towns for grocery shopping and resupply are Winthrop, Twisp or Mazama, depending on the campground. Individual adults, couples or small families are welcome. We invite you to be a campground host on the Lower Trinity, Orleans, or Ukonom Ranger Districts of Six Rivers National Forest, where daytime summer temperatures range from 80-100 degrees, with mildly cool nights in the 50s. Elevation is 400’-1800’, and depending on the campground, one will find a canopy of deciduous and live oaks, madrones, bay laurels, firs, pines, and cedars. Breathe in the clean air, gaze at the beauty of the night sky, and listen to the flowing rivers. Please read on for details about how you may share in this wonderful experience while assisting visitors in the campgrounds. RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures that campground visitors have reservations or occupy a first-come first-serve site, and only camp at their designated site during their stay Educates visitors about rules and regulations of the campground and Forest (quiet hours, occupant limit, fire restrictions, etc.) Reports serious violations of regulations to the Forest Service point of contact or Law Enforcement as warranted. Cleans and maintains restrooms, fire rings, and grounds Communicates professionally with visitors; affinity for engaging with the public is required DUTIES: Clean vault restrooms daily (cleaning toilet riser, restocking toilet paper, and sweeping and mopping floor) Clean out bear-proof food storage containers daily (currently pertains only to Oak Bottom Campground) Pick up litter during daily walk-through of campgrounds Clean out fire rings/campsites as needed Report all major maintenance needs, vandalism, and other problems Assist Forest Service staff with maintenance at campground as needed Educate and inform visitors regarding the area and recreational opportunities in addition to rules and regulations of the Forest QUALIFICATIONS: Ability and desire to interact extensively with visitors Attention to detail Willingness to clean and maintain restrooms, picnic sites, campsites, etc. Upbeat and positive attitude Past campground host experience is helpful, but not required. Training will be provided by the Forest Service. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license Must have and maintain a functioning personal vehicle Background check required WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Campgrounds are well-developed, but there are slip, trip, and fall hazards in any outdoor environment. Host must have their own RV, and no hook-ups are provided, with the exception of Pearch Creek Campground. Compensation: Hosts may receive a stipend and a free or discounted entry pass to U.S. National Parks and Forests with 250 hours of volunteer work performed. Campground Descriptions: Pearch Creek: 45’ host site with RV hook ups and additional storage space. Located in a mature Douglas fir and hardwood forest at 415’ elevation. Grocery store, gas, post office, Wi-fi, and Forest Service ranger station are three miles from the campground. The campground includes 10 reservation and first-come first-serve sites, a vault toilet, and potable water. Sounds of Pearch creek can be heard from most campsites. Oak Bottom: 45’ host site with electrical hook up only, and additional storage space. The campground has a mixed forest canopy at 700’ elevation and is located across Salmon River Rd. off the Wild and Scenic Salmon River. Campground includes 26 reservation and first-come first-serve sites, four vault toilets, and water. Located 2.5 miles is Somes Bar, where there is a convenience store, post office, and Wi-fi. Less than 10 miles is the town of Orleans, which has a full-service gas station, post office, Wi-fi, grocery store, and Forest Service ranger station. Dillon Creek: 45’ host site with no hook ups or potable water. The host site does include a storage shed and may include a non-potable water tank. The mixed forest campground parallels Dillon Creek and has 21 reservation and first-come first-serve sites, three vault toilets, and no potable water. The campground is located at 800’ elevation. Happy Camp, located 27 miles away includes a post office, grocery store, gas, restaurant, and dumping station. Fish Lake: 45’ host site with no hook ups. The host site does include a storage shed and may include a non-potable water tank. The mixed forest campground sits adjacent to Fish Lake with 24 reservation and first-come first-serve sites, five vault toilets, and potable water. The campground is located at 1800’ elevation. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest is seeking enthusiast candidates to serve as a campground host at Laird Park Campground for the 2025 season. Laird Park Campground, located in the northwest Idaho town of Potlatch and named in memory of A.W. Laird, a lumberman and early leader in the Potlatch Lumber Co., is a fantastic location to bring your family, friends or maybe even your boy or girl scout troupe for some outdoor fun and swimming. The recreation area has a sandy beach (a result of a swimming beach dam built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933), 2 group picnic areas as well a half-mile interpretive trail. Fishing is a popular pastime here too, with abundant opportunities for rainbow and brown trout from the Palouse River. This campground offers 31 sites, 4 tent-only sites, and 8 toilets.
