Oregon. Volunteer couples needed for BLM (federal) day-use park, Wildwood Recreation Site, 40 mi. east of Portland near Mt. Hood, along the Wild and Scenic Salmon River. Duties for summer season (April thru Oct.) include park upkeep, maintenance, RR cleaning/stocking, entrance booth operation, and information/visitor services. Openings for 120-180 days (negotiable). Work is flexible but generally 24 hrs. per wk., 4 days on 3 off (together). Compensation includes FHU, propane, free laundry, golf cart, Internet access, and $9.50/day. The campground host will serve as the official BLM representative in the campground. He/she greets visitors, provides information to the public, and helps with campground management. Daily tasks include but are not limited to ensuring visitor compliance with rules and regulations, monitoring daily campground fee compliance, cleaning and stocking restrooms, picking up litter, and performing light maintenance tasks. The campground host is expected to be committed to their duties at the campground and be available during daytime and weekend hours, therefore outside work or existing jobs are not permitted while being a host for BLM. The host will receive a $25 per day reimbursement. Couples are allowed to be campground hosts, but they will be reimbursed as a single person. The Camp Host site has electric, water, and sewage hookups. Campers have access to potable water, flush toilets, and showers. There are 23 sites. All sites are first-come-first-serve. No reservations. Popular with fisherman and pleasure boaters alike, this clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. Paddlers enjoy the narrow valley with Ponderosa Pine, Douglas fir, Oaks, and Madrone trees coating the walls of the canyons. If you would like more adrenaline rush, the waters below Pigeon Point rage at class III-V for white water enthusiasts. Those interested in a more relaxing experience can enjoy the abundant camping options in the area or head for the trail with your friends, horses, or dog. If you would like to stay at the river's edge, you can always swim, fish or do a little gold panning. The river can be accessed from many locations along this stretch of the Trinity River. The Judith Landing campground host will provide visitor information, conduct area monitoring, provide a management presence, perform maintenance and janitorial duties, and represent the BLM. Judith Landing is a popular site open 5/15-5/17 within Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument for launching watercraft, as well as camping, picnicking and fishing. The campground features eight first-come, first serve campsites. Duties: Hosting duties include but are not limited to: -Daily campground fee compliance, campsite maintenance duties -Monitoring facilities and campground for visitor security and potential safety hazards -Reporting to staff when repairs are needed or when incidents occur -Daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground -Conducting BLM visitor surveys with visitors Maintenance duties include routine bathroom cleaning, campsite cleanup (trash pick-up, fire ring cleaning), grass mowing and other basic maintenance tasks. Location Info: This position is relatively remote, located 45 minutes from nearest town (Winifred or Big Sandy) with basic services (gas, grocery). It is 80 minutes away from Fort Benton or Lewistown that each offer more expanded services (hospital, shopping). Located roughly halfway along the Upper Missouri Wild & Scenic River, this is the primary location that the public and outfitted groups take out from the river.
