Make a Difference: Volunteer for Hospice!

Make a difference in someone's life by providing compassionate presence and companionship to Gentiva Hospice patients and their families in the Rankin County area. Our Patient Care Hospice volunteers help to provide support and comfort to our hospice patients and families, by visiting them during a time of need. Gentiva Hospice volunteers may serve in a multitude of ways, including: Offering patient companionship at bedside Reading a book to patients Engaging in conversation with patients/family members Playing cards or games Singing or playing music Caregiver/family respite Light household work Running an errand Assisting with an arts/craft activity Volunteers may also assist staff with special events such as memorial services and veteran pinning ceremonies for our hospice patients and families.

Pet Therapy Animals and Handlers Needed

If you have a certified pet therapy animal and a desire to bring joy to people during a very difficult time in their lives, we would love to hear from you! You and your therapy pet would have the opportunity to visit patients in private homes, assisted living facilities, or skilled nursing facilities and brighten their days. Not all of our patients request pet therapy, but those who do REALLY benefit from it! Please contact our volunteer coordinator if you would like more information about this volunteer opportunity.

Share the Gift of Music

Music is universal and has to power to bring joy and healing to those who hear it. If you have any musical abilities you would be willing to share with people receiving hospice services, or even just a love of music, please know that there are many people who could benefit from your time and gifts. Many of our patients love to hear live music or even to sing along with a Spotify playlist. These activities can ease stress, provide pleasure, and improve the quality of life in people dealing with illnesses. Gentiva Hospice is a provider of end of life care, serving more people than any other Hospice provider in the country.

Volunteers are an essential part of our interdisciplinary team. They help provide support both administratively and in-home to patients and families. Gentiva offers extensive training on end of life care to our volunteers.
