To Apply Directly, go to: https://www.bringingjusticehomelou.org/volunteer Summary: Grocery Bringer volunteers with Bringing Justice Home will perform a variety of tasks to assist with reducing hunger and food insecurity in the Louisville area by delivering groceries and household supplies to neighbors* with special needs or who are medically vulnerable. Volunteering with Bringing Justice Home assumes a willingness to reach out to those unlike ourselves in a nonjudgmental, compassionate way. Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations (Note: All groceries and supplies will be paid for by Bringing Justice Home. You will provide your own transportation with no reimbursement.) Making a monthly delivery to one or more neighbors as scheduled by the BJH Volunteer Coordinator Currently, deliveries consist of picking up an order at Kroger and delivering it at a designated date and time to the neighbor. Some deliveries are contact-free, but some neighbors need assistance carrying their groceries inside. The volunteer coordinator knows who these neighbors are, so if the volunteer is uncomfortable with having to go indoors, that is completely understandable, and we will give you another assignment. Developing a personal connection with neighbor Using active listening skills to support neighbor Bringing any voiced or observed needs back to Bringing Justice Home Director for review From time to time, shopping for and assembling one-time welcome bags Requirements Must have own transportation for shopping and/or delivery Must have access to phone and computer/internet for communication, shopping lists, etc. Must be able to lift bags or boxes of groceries and supplies and climb steps at homes/apartments or request to make deliveries without stairs or other challenging obstacles Must be willing to serve those unlike ourselves without judgment. Must have a heart for helping those who are struggling with food insecurity due to unemployment, age, illness, disability and other reasons. Must be willing to serve one neighbor monthly. May serve more if desired. Must maintain confidentiality (can share stories but not names, addresses, or other specifics). Training Training will consist of a video meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator to review details of the job. This will include a review of our non-discrimination policy, mission and vision, as well as job duties. There will also be a series of online modules to complete. Volunteer Coordinator and board are always available for questions and support. Time Commitment Once a month for approximately two hours per neighbor served. Approximately 30 minutes per online training module; there are four modules total. Volunteers may complete the first module in order to get started more quickly, and then they will have 30 days to complete the rest of them. To Apply Directly, go to: https://www.bringingjusticehomelou.org/volunteer Bringing Justice Home, Inc., a small nonprofit based in Louisville, Kentucky, is looking for compassionate and creative individuals who wish to use their skills to help our organization build a strong foundation in governance best practices, and/or to assist with development and strategic planning to grow our capacity to carry out our mission and achieve our vision of shared resources, shared outcomes, shared dreams in the Louisville community. Applicants should live in or near the Louisville area. Volunteers would serve on our governance and development committee and/or take on projects such as researching and developing policies, marketing, and strategic plans. Ideally, after serving in this capacity, some volunteers would join our board of directors, beginning service at the beginning of the fiscal year in July 2024. Preference will be given to volunteers in the Louisville, Kentucky area and/or to volunteers who have a connection to our city. Job Title: Neighbor Advocate To Apply Directly, go to: https://www.bringingjusticehomelou.org/volunteer Our Mission: To foster the health and wellness of medically vulnerable neighbors facing food insecurity through the delivery of groceries and household supplies and through offering social support; and to engage the community in the work of justice through education, shared resources, and building just relationships. Purpose: Neighbor Advocates help us carry out our mission by connecting directly with Neighbors to facilitate their access to healthy, affordable food and household supplies, thereby increasing household food security while extending the dignity of choice. Neighbor Advocates also make connections across the many boundary lines that often divide us, making our community stronger. Location and Technology Needs: Neighbor Advocates can work from any location. They talk to Neighbors on the phone to take their grocery order and place the order in the online Kroger Pickup system using the Bringing Justice Home account. They will need internet access, a phone, and the skills necessary to place online orders. Key Responsibilities: Build rapport with Neighbors with active listening, empathy, and relationship building skills Communicate by phone with Neighbors to place their monthly grocery order Work with the Neighbor to ensure their order is within budget. Encourage Neighbors to shop for items that prioritize health, wellness, and dignity of choice. Provide cooking and recipe ideas as needed or upon Neighbor request. Keep all Neighbor identifying information confidential, except you may bring any voiced or observed needs or concerns back to Bringing Justice Home’s Executive Director for review. Securely maintain BJH Kroger login information and account, which includes debit and credit cards on file. Make referrals to community resources using list of provided resources Assign grocery pickup order to Grocery Bringer volunteer based on provided availability Communicate details about order to assigned Grocery Brnger Save order details in designated Google Drive space Reports to : Executive Director Length of Appointment : We hope you’ll be a part of our neighborhood forever! But we do ask you to commit to a 90-day period of service once you’re onboarded with us. Time Commitment: At least one 4-hour shift per week at a set regular time so that Neighbors know when to call. Qualifications : Willingness to serve without judgment those who may seem to be unlike ourselves Compassion for helping those who are facing food insecurity due to unemployment, age, illness, disability, and other reasons. Ability to use active listening skills to communicate and build relationships with our neighbors. Access to phone, computer, and internet. Ability to use email, texting, and/or phone calls for communication with neighbors and Executive Director. Ability to commit to a 90-day trial period of service of approximately one 4-hour shift per week, Monday-Saturday. Maintain confidentiality outside of Bringing Justice Home (you may share stories but not names, addresses, or other specifics). Training: Training will consist of a phone or video meeting to review details of the position. This will include a review of our non-discrimination policy, mission and vision, as well as job duties. There will also be a series of online modules to complete. Age Requirement: 18 and older.
