What role do volunteers play? Administration: Provides office support for direct patient care (creating patient/family teaching material, mailings, filing, etc.). General Support: Provides program support through arts and crafts for patients or bereaved, community events, health or community fairs, fundraising, community speaker events, education, public relations, and volunteer recruitment. Patient Care: Provides in-person activities and companionship (reading, life review, listening, watching a patient’s favorite shows, playing board or card games, scrapbooking, yard work, animal care, respite, etc.). Bereavement: Provides in-person, phone, or office support for the bereavement program and interacts with the family in a caring and compassionate manner. Assists with arrangements after death, agency memorial services or activities, and community education on end-of-life issues. Professional: This may include hospice interdisciplinary team and complementary alternative integrative health services roles.

Tennova Hospice, an LHC Group company, is looking for a compassionate and dedicated volunteer to help support our bereavement (grief) support services. In-office opportunities include assisting our Bereavement Coordinator with mailings and phone calls to loved ones of former hospice patients. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 8-4:30 pm so a volunteer needs to have daytime availability as well as transportation to our office near Tennova Hospital. An availability of an hour a week is ideal. Also, during the summer, helping to organize and host our three 1/2-day children's grief camp, Camp Willow Creek, for 10-20 children who have lost a loved one. Camp is held in Clarksville at a local park. Please note, becoming a volunteer includes a background check, drug screening, TB skin test, 8-10 hours of online education as well as in person training with the Volunteer Manager and Bereavement Coordinator.
