Provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago (BBBSChi) carefully matches children and youth "Littles," with positive volunteer mentors, whom we call "Bigs." Throughout the course of their mentoring relationship ("match"), we monitor and support the match, providing safety and quality measures, as well as outcome-based activity ideas and goals. Through the Community Based Program and a variety of Site Based Programs, all Littles receive consistent, long-standing support from a mentor and their dedicated BBBSChi match support specialist.
Matches spend time together engaging in outcome-based activities that intentionally focus on increasing social skills, developing positive behaviors while avoiding risky ones, developing self-esteem, combating isolation, enhancing academic engagement and performance, and planning for the future.
