All it takes is hanging out with a child a few hours a month - hours that have the potential to change lives. Theirs and Yours.
WHAT MAKES A GREAT BIG?
- Consistent & reliable
- Caring & supportive
- Willing to share time, ideas, new experiences

WHO ARE OUR LITTLES?
- 7-18 years old (7-14 at enrollment)
- Various family structures
- Variety of neighborhoods, especially Gurnee, Waukegan, Zion, Round Lake & Highwood
- Willing to participate
- Decision to enroll is family-driven
- Connect with your little along with other matches in a group setting led by a BBBS Program Facilitator
- Sessions happen twice a month at a set day and time depending on the program.
- Each program includes time for relationship building, structured activity and free time.
OUR COMMUNITY-BASED MENTORING PROGRAM
- Spending one-on-one time sharing local culture, exploring new educational opportunities, developing new skills and hobbies
- Each match is unique and creates a schedule that works for them based on location and interests
- Outings are a few times a month and you pick up your Little from their home

Description
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago (BBBSChi) carefully matches children and youth "Littles," with positive volunteer mentors, whom we call "Bigs." Throughout the course of their mentoring relationship ("match"), we monitor and support the match, providing safety and quality measures, as well as outcome-based activity ideas and goals. Through the Community Based Program and a variety of Site Based Programs, all Littles receive consistent, long-standing support from a mentor and their dedicated BBBSChi match support specialist.
Matches spend time together engaging in outcome-based activities that intentionally focus on increasing social skills, developing positive behaviors while avoiding risky ones, developing self-esteem, combating isolation, enhancing academic engagement and performance, and planning for the future.BBBS services are provided throughout Lake, DuPage, and Cook Counties in Illinois, and Lake County in Indiana.
