By joining the RiseUp Malawi mission, you will gain new skill sets, learn about the nonprofit world and Africa (Malawian culture specifically) and be able to say that you've made a difference for children and their families living in extreme poverty in rural Malawi. *PLEASE NOTE THIS OPPORTUNITY IS REMOTE BUT YOU MUST BE U.S. BASED. We cannot accept applicants outside the US. About Us: We are a small but mighty nonprofit providing educational programs for youth and their families in the rural southern region of Malawi, a tiny landlocked country in South East Africa. Our mission focuses on sustainability and providing our community with a hand-up, not a hand-out. About the opportunity: We are looking for a volunteer social media intern to do a full take over of our social media 6 months (June 2025-December 2025) and help us share our amazing story with the world (Please note this opportunity does not require fundraising experience or skills but you may be asked to participate in fundraising efforts on a content only basis). This opportunity is ideal for a college student or young professional with mad social media skills to add something powerful to their resume or for anyone who has a little bit of extra time and wants to give back through storytelling. Ideal volunteer is familiar with Facebook/Instagram integration, LinkedIn for nonprofits, photo editing (Canva), hashtags, filters and has an eye for visual aesthetics. You don't have to be an expert at social media, we just want someone whose passionate about the world's poor and can commit an hour or two a week to posting and/or scheduling future posts. This position is remote and super flexible (ie we will not be breathing down your back so you can run with it and make this your own project), so you work where you want when you want and in return you get to do something extraordinary for our children and their families in Malawi. A Few More Details: You will be managing our Instagram & LinkedIn accounts and growing our audience and followers through weekly engagement. This includes 1-2 weekly posts, responding to comments, following relevant accounts and using your own network to connect others to our cause. The only requirement for this position is that you already have an established social media presence on both platforms. In return for your time, upon completion of the 6 month internship you will receive a RiseUp T-shirt, acknowledgement on our website or in our newsletter, letter of recommendation if needed and that wonderful feeling of knowing you did something amazing to help one of the world's most economically challenged populations. You will also be given the opportunity to stay in our guesthouse in Malawi at zero cost should you be inspired to travel there and see our programs up close. We are looking for someone who has social media growth experience and is passionate about the African continent and developing countries- previous travel to the African continent is a plus! Additonal note: We are a community of believers who love the Lord and desire to give Him glory through our mission and through serving our brothers and sisters in Christ. We want our social media to reflect Jesus' love for our children, speaking to their challenges but ultimately maintaining dignity and honoring the beloved children of God that they are. Video Editor Needed for Africa-based Non-Profit

RiseUp Malawi is a small but mighty Denver based non-profit with programs in rural Malawi, Africa. We are looking for an experienced film/video editor interested in donating their time to help us edit a short video for an upcoming fundraiser in September 2025 (5-10 minute video). We will provide HD footage; however you will need to have your own access to an editing suite. We will provide some creative input, but mostly we want you to use your skills to share our story in a powerful way! ABOUT RISEUP MALAWI RiseUp is a small but mighty non-profit working in one of the most remote and impoverished corners of the world: rural Malawi. We aim to achieve real social change through carefully designed educational initiatives that empower young individuals in Malawi to recognize and make use of their God given skills and abilities. We believe educational investment is critical to sustainable development and work closely with village elders, government officials, moms, dads, teachers and youth to listen to their real needs. This bottom up approach allows the voices of our community to be prioritized as they seek out unique solutions to unique problems. In all of our programs we encourage ownership and agency in an effort to dismantle the "dependency syndrome" that so many aid organizations have reinforced for decades through handouts. Mission Statement

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit providing educational support to orphaned and at-risk children in Mangochi, Malawi. Every year the people of Malawi face life-threatening diseases in the form of malaria & HIV/AIDS, leaving thousands of children orphaned or struggling to pay for daily needs & education. Our goal is to provide the educational and livelihood support necessary for these children to have a future of self-reliance and hope.

Description

RiseUp Malawi currently serves over 300 children in our free afterschool program, supports 20 secondary school (highschool) students with full scholarship, and has provided free farming training for over 60 local farmers. We also have a music program where children can explore difficult subjects like HIV and child marriage awareness through song and dance, and a monthly girls empowerment program and annual retreat. Our goal is provide relief from extreme poverty and hunger through education initiatives that empower children and their families to lift themselves up from within. We do not give handouts, but believe education is the key to liberating our community from generational cycles of economic hardship.
