Come and have a sleepover with the foster children who are staying overnight at The Landing! The Landing is an emergency placement shelter for children first entering foster care. We care for kids age 0-12 in some of their most difficult days, providing them a 'soft place to land' as they begin their foster care journey. Our program is run primarily by community members who volunteer to care for children around the clock- including overnight! Overnight shifts are from 9pm-7am or 8pm-8am. Volunteers are asked to serve for a minimum of once a month. Washington State does require a few things to complete before volunteering, so inquire about this opportunity and meet with Kayla to talk about how you can get started! (Minimum age is 21)

Our 3rd annual Camp Skookum is right around the corner! This weekend long retreat in Bellingham is for families who have been impacted by the foster care system and are now reunified. It’s a privilege for us to use this time to celebrate and support families who are back together after their time apart. Camp Skookum is a place for parents and kids to make lasting memories and find community with other families who have similar lived experiences. At Camp Skookum, everyone enjoys many memorable traditional camp activities, such as a carnival, outdoor movie night, meal time skits and even some time out at the lake! We are looking for an individual with professional photography experience who would be available to join us at specific camp events through out the weekend to capture camp memories! Some fun examples of events include an outdoor carnival, meal time skits, bon fire/s'mores, lake time and tie dyeing! For some of our families, camp is the one opportunity they have to get great, professional quality photos together. Exact schedule over the weekend can be coordinated with Camp Skookum staff based on availability.

| SKOOKUM MENTORS | Skookum Kids has just launched a brand new pilot program, Skookum Mentors, where adult volunteers in our community will be matched with a foster child for one-on-one mentoring. Similar to a 'big brother-big sister' program, the focus of the mentorship will revolve around what we call recreational therapy, like taking kids to see a movie, to the park, or to Trampoline Zone! No previous experience or training is required. Mentors must pass a background check. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, unless currently enrolled in a BA or BSW program.

Mission Statement
The mission of Skookum Kids is to repair the foster care system by eliminating the pain points that make life unnecessarily difficult for foster parents and social workers. We do that by involving the whole community in the important work of child welfare.
Description
Skookum Kids bring fresh ideas and new energy to a broken system. Foster care has a bad reputation--sometimes deserved--but we see hope and change. We believe the world is full of people who want to help but don't know how, so we've crafted a suite of volunteer opportunities so that everyone can participate in this important work. These volunteer opportunities range from one-time events ideal for large groups to year-long commitments that enable a sustained relationship with a particular child. We take great pride in finding the right way for every person to participate in this revolution.
