Come and have a sleepover with the foster children who are staying overnight at the Skookum House!
Every shift looks different at the Skookum House, since we have a high turn over rate of the children who come to stay. We have had kids whose ages range from 4 days old to 17.5 years old. Depending on the ages the overnight shift could be the easiest- you come in and just go to sleep. Or one of the harder ones- you have a newborn and need to be up every 2 hours for feeding. It all just depends on the ages. Shifts are from 9pm-7am or 8pm -8am.
Volunteers are asked to serve for a minimum of once a month. We are open 24/7, Washington State does require a few things to complete before volunteering, so inquire about this opportunity and meet with Ellie to talk about how you can get started! (Minimum age is 21)
About SKOOKUM KIDS
316 E McLeod Rd. Suite 108, BELLINGHAM, WA 98226, US
The mission of Skookum Kids is to repair the foster care system by eliminating the pain points that make life unnecessarily difficult for foster parents and social workers. We do that by involving the whole community in the important work of child welfare.
Skookum Kids bring fresh ideas and new energy to a broken system. Foster care has a bad reputation--sometimes deserved--but we see hope and change. We believe the world is full of people who want to help but don't know how, so we've crafted a suite of volunteer opportunities so that everyone can participate in this important work. These volunteer opportunities range from one-time events ideal for large groups to year-long commitments that enable a sustained relationship with a particular child. We take great pride in finding the right way for every person to participate in this revolution.
We'll work with your schedule.
