Job Title AFO - Member of Board of Directors Job Description As a Member of the Board of Directors at Aeon for Ocean, you will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the organization. You will oversee organizational policies, financial health, and overall governance, ensuring we fulfill our mission effectively and ethically. Key Responsibilities Provide governance and oversight for the organization's operations. Contribute to the development of the strategic plan and monitor its execution. Ensure the financial stability and accountability of the organization. Advocate for the organization's mission and engage in community outreach. Attend and actively participate in regular board meetings and relevant committee meetings. Qualifications Proven leadership experience in a board role or similar capacity. Strong commitment to the organization's mission and strategic objectives. Experience in governance, finance, fundraising, and/or nonprofit management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to think critically and engage in constructive dialogue with other board members. Job Title Board Secretary Job Description The Board Secretary will play a critical role in fostering communication and diligence through proper management and utilization of important records such as meeting minutes and the organization's bylaws. The Secretary will be responsible for ensuring accurate documentation in all board-related activities. Responsibilities Maintain all board records and ensure their accuracy and safety. Prepare meeting agendas in consultation with the Board Chair and other committee heads. Take minutes during board meetings and ensure the minutes are distributed to all members post-meeting. Keep copies of the organization's bylaws and the Board's policy statements. Oversee the proper recording of all amendments to the bylaws and ensure that all board members have up-to-date copies. Handle the board's correspondence and maintain a record of all correspondence. Qualifications Proven experience as a Board Secretary or similar administrative role. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding board matters. Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Word and Excel. Experience in managing records and meeting minutes. Aeon for Ocean is a U.S.-based nonprofit founded by 7-year-old Aeon in Minnesota, to share knowledge about marine life, the oceans and our role in protecting this planet.
Our focus is on helping inland communities understand why the ocean matters and identify things they can do to protect the ocean. Through our Krill2Whale program and other initiatives, Aeon for Ocean is teaching kids they can save the World Ocean for eons!
