St. Mary Medical Center is seeking musicians for our hospital's Lobby. We have a baby grand piano if that is your instrument of choice. If you play a different instrument; guitar, flute, violin... those would be welcomed too! The minimum commitment would be one set one hour shift weekly. All that pass through our Lobby would have a moment of enjoying your gift of music, taking their mind off other things.

We have some departments that might need help in a clerical capacity. Some are simple tasks such as folding pamphlets, collating, etc... and others need someone with computer skills. We will try to match your skills with a department seeking help. In a office setting the available placement days would be a week day, normal business hours. In a patient care department it could be any day of the week between 8a-8p. We are looking for people that have time for a weekly commitment of a 4 hour shift.

St. Mary Medical Center's Low Vision department's Vision Screening Program has been in existence for over 20 years. We are looking for women that would be interested in helping. You and your fellow volunteer Low Vision Screeners will be instrumental in helping to provide accurate vision evaluations to the children of the greater Long Beach area schools thereby creating a healthier community. Training is provided. Our volunteers provide the screenings as a group on Tuesdays and/or Wednesday mornings. You can make new friends while helping our community.

We are looking for the right volunteer match for MATERNAL CARE departments: Labor and Delivery, NICU, Post Partum Nursery, as well as other patient care departments: Med Surg, Telemetry, ER Our volunteers support the staff. Our volunteers do not do any task that would cause them to touch a patient. Our volunteers help the staff and hopefully bring joy to the patients they encounter. Some of the ways our volunteers can help: acting as runners for the staff, discharging patients by wheelchairs, round patient rooms, answer phone calls at the Nurse's Station, etc...... If you are considering going into the medical field, this is a terrific way to confirm your career choice. If you are someone who is not going into the medical field but would love to help, as the right person for placement, we would WELCOME you.

Volunteering in our In Patient PT/OT gym will give you insight to your future career while being of help to the staff. Some of the ways you might help would be to assist the therapists with managing doors, extra equipment, pushing the wheelchair behind the patient while the therapist works with that patient, as well as wiping down surfaces and equipment, pick up OT supplies from Central Supply within the hospital, restock O2 tanks, just to name a few ways you could be asked to help. We are looking for students of PT/OT.
