Riseboro Community Partnership is seeking volunteers who are interested in spending one hour out of the week chatting via phone with a home bound senior citizen. Many of our seniors are more isolated and therefore are battling depression and anxiety due to the impact of COVID-19. Our senior citizens are unable to go out into the community and are looking for a companion to laugh with, talk to and enjoy their time with! Our seniors reside within Bushwick, Bedstuy, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and Ocean Hill. Volunteers have three different ways to engage with seniors: 1) Having one on one calls 2) Visiting seniors in their own home (play chess, card games, dominoes, chat, and listen to music!) 3) Facilitating a group call (seniors participate in a group call) This is a mutually rewarding friendship, where you're able to learn about the seniors in your neighborhoods, their art styles, interests and the changes that have occurred to the community over the years! We serve a diverse group of elderly and seek people of all backgrounds and ages (18 and up) to join us in helping our seniors feel more connected to their communities. This Friendly Visiting Program is funded by The NYC Department for the Aging.

Do you love to play dominoes? We have one senior who loves to play dominoes in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! If you live in the area and have one hour on the weekends to play dominoes with a home bound senior, this would be a great opportunity for you to volunteer! We're currently looking for volunteers who want to practice their Spanish speaking skills while also helping a primarily Spanish speaking senior English. This would be the perfect opportunity for you to give back to your community while also learning and practicing your Spanish! Home Visits: Visit seniors in their homes for activities like playing chess, card games, dominoes, chatting, or simply listening to music together.
