Description
Lake Merritt United Methodist Church is an open and welcoming Christian congregation serving God in downtown Oakland. We seek to build a multiracial, multiethnic and multicultural community. We welcome and affirm full participation of LGBT people in the life of the congregation. We work to promote the inclusiveness of all people in the United Methodist Church as a whole.
The church serves this community, the people of greater downtown Oakland, and the global community with a wide variety of programs and missions.

This is the first time I've volunteered in this church. I'm excited and happy because I can try to contact different people. I and two other volunteers, Mariah and Isaiah, worked hard in the church to prepare and package food. Make sure there is an adequate lunch supply. Then we pushed the cart around the lake to find the homeless and asked if they needed lunch. Although the whole process is a little tired, it is very meaningful to be able to communicate with people in need and help. (11:30-13:00)
Secondly, at the same time as another volunteer time (13:15-14:00), Mariah and two other volunteers distributed food at the church gate. I was also moved to be happy.
