Our volunteers help us to meet and greet our families as well as respond to their questions and needs. A variety of activities require the assistance of our valued volunteers. Without the love and devotion of volunteers, the Family Room could not function and many families would have no place to go for comfort during one of the most difficult times of their lives.
Volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week in three hour shifts: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., 12 p.m. - 3 p.m., 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Typical Tasks:
-Help create a hospitable atmosphere for guests
-Inventory supplies
-Answer the phone
-Make sure the Family Room is neat and clean
-Assist families in their time of need
-Check families in and give them a tour of the Family Room
-Change and launder the bed linens when a family checks out
Application Process:
-Complete Family Room application
-Complete Norton Women's and Children's Hospital volunteer application
-Receive a TB test (provided free of charge by Norton Women's and Children's Hospital)
-Pass the background check (provided free of charge by Norton Women's and Children's Hospital)
Qualifications:
-Must be 18 years of age or older
-Must be in good mental and physical health
-Self-directed
-Dependable
-Committed
-Willing to help

Mission Statement
A Ronald McDonald Family Room, located inside the walls of a hospital, is a smaller version of the Ronald McDonald House where we offer comfort and respite for families of children receiving medical treatment. Our Family Room keeps parents within steps of their ill child during a difficult and critical time.
Description
Families with a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Norton Suburban Hospital are eligible to stay at Ronald McDonald Family Room at no charge. RMFR is staffed by volunteers seven days a week. Families are able to take a refreshing shower, grab a snack, wash their clothes, email their kids at home, research their infant's illness or just get a good night's sleep.

- Two restrooms with shower facilities
- Lactation room with two breast pumps
- Kitchenette area with microwave, refrigerator and stocked with snacks and coffee
- Coca Cola machine with juices, water, and soft drinks for a quarter
- Comfortable recliners and sofa
- Computer with Internet access and printer
- Telephones
- Cable TV, VCR and DVD
- Washer and dryer
