Join the small program with a big heart! Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center, Dixon, needs volunteers to walk alongside horses, "sidewalking," and lead horses for our riders, who have a wide range of disabilities. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old and are required to attend an orientation. You do not need to have experience with horses or special needs people. The only things you need are patience and enthusiasm. (You do need to have the stamina to walk in the uneven footing of a riding arena for approximately 45 minutes.) Through the power of human-horse partnerships, Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center enhances the lives of people with disabilities.
Description
Horseplay is a year-round riding program, affiliated with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH), that provides structured riding sessions for people with disabilities and special needs. The program offers 45-minute riding sessions on Saturday mornings (9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., Tuesday evenings (5:15 p.m., 6:15 p.m.) and Wednesday evenings (5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m.). We have an wonderful herd of five horses--we call them the "Fab 5"--and the horses' relationship with our riders is uplifting and sometimes transformative. Our riders range from severely disabled to those who ride independently. Join us in creating and experiencing the the positive experience that is Horseplay!
