What We Do:
Children are our future. Four days a week, Monday through Thursday, as many as 50 (K-8 th grade) children are involved in a homework assistance program that started eighteen years ago to instill an appreciation and commitment to school, teach volunteerism, model social skills, and enhance student self-worth.
Volunteers are and always have been the lifeblood of this activity. We close the gap between the school, the parents, and the community through our organization’s Liaison and an Interagency Agreement with the School Board Sarasota County. Children, many of whom come from low-income homes, are provided a hot meal and homework assistance, meeting both food scarcity and educational needs.
How You Can Help:
Ample volunteers are needed for our program to allow us to provide targeted, educational services to these students. The efficacy of our program is directly connected to our volunteer numbers.
Volunteers are needed Monday-Thursday, between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.
Services you can expect to provide:
Aiding the completion of student homework.
Reading with our younger students.
Providing help with serving our Kids Café entrees.
*Also, we love to hear our volunteer input and look forward to your own creative ways of making a difference within our program!
