  • All participants must be able to walk, bend and lift boxes of product weighing up to 35 lbs without assistance.
  • All volunteers are required to sign-up on-line via a link your group leader will provide to you.

Scheduling information:

See attached open group schedule Aug 2018 thru June 2019 for available food sorting shifts. Bookings are on a first come, first serve basis. If you see a date you think works with your availability tell us to tentatively book it for you. Once we determine a date and shift time a registration code and link will be provided for you to send to anyone interested in joining the sort date. If you are unable to recruit the minimum of 6 people we suggest you let your group invite family/friends to join your group (as long as everyone is 12 years of age or older). If you do not reach the minimum of 6 we will need to reschedule.

Produce packing: Inspect, sort, and box incoming produce for our pantry partners and direct programs. Starting in November the afternoon shifts will be helping with this produce activity. If we happen to not need any produce inspected and boxed up we ask your group to sort rescued food depending on the need at that time. Please be open to helping where needed.

  • Check in with the volunteer coordinator, Christina Forino, in the lobby of the 4156 building asking for the Volunteer Department.
  • FOOD Share group lead: An available staff member
  • Every Wednesday for a 2 hour duration 11:00am-1:00pm

Gleaning: Going out to private orchards or backyards to pick the fruit. Booking of a gleaning opportunity depends on the group size and an available pick on the date and time you would like to arrange the volunteer opportunity. Let me know if this is something you are interested in and we can discuss with our volunteer lead, David Orr.

Sign-ups and checking in and checking out:

The group coordinator will be marked as a leader so they will be able to receive all sign-ups and/or cancellations from anyone in your group. Once we determine a date and shift time a link will be provided for you to send to anyone interested in joining the sort date.

When you all arrive: come in at least 5 minutes early so we can sign everyone in on our computer or if they have a smart phone they can sign themselves in using their phone. The location service has to be on in order to sign in via their phone. There is also a link in the confirmation email allowing them to sign up via the mobile phone. The confirmation email goes out two days prior and then if they check the text box next to their cell phone # in their profile they will receive a text reminder one day prior to event date.

Additional information:
