- Volunteers are trained to offer reading support to children in grades 2 - 5.
- Each volunteer is matched with a student and meets with that student one hour a week during the school day (9:00 - 3:15).
- Tutoring runs from October through June 1st, and follows the public school schedule of vacations.
- Tutoring is done in a classroom.
- A Power to Read staff member is available at all times to offer support and provide instructional materials.

Support the classroom teachers in strengthening the reading skills of needy 1st - 5th graders of Silver Lane Elementary School, East Hartford, CT.
Description
- Each volunteer tutor is matched with a child from grades 1 - 5
- Volunteeers are trained and commit to a weekly, 1 hour, tutoring session
- Tutoring occurs from October - May, during the school day (9:30 - 3:00). Lab follows school calendar.
- Tutoring is done in the Power to Read room - a spacious, sunlit classroom.
- Power to Read staff is always present to provide instructional materials and support to the tutors.
