CURRENTLY, WE ARE IN NEED OF SEVERAL WORK CREWS WHO ARE ABLE TO MOVE ITEMS, SOME TO DUMPSTER AND OTHERS TO DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE BUILDING. ANOTHER PHASE OF RENOVATION IS SOON TO BEGIN.
EVO is a 501(c)3 non-profit that serves the at-risk youth and the families of a east-end of Pittsburgh to include the communities of Garfield, Lawrenceville, East Lliberty, Bloomfield and Friendship. The mission of EVO is to build social, racial and economic bridges to connect communities, organizations and people for the enhancement and transformation of all in the East End of Pittsburgh. The vision of EVO is to walk alongside children and families on a long-term basis as they are guided into healthy functional mature adults.
EVO is interested in having skilled and non-skilled volunteers come for one day or a long term basis. We are in the process of renovating an old church building and are using volunteer crews to accomplish much of the needed renovations. Foundation money is limited and volunteering allows the community to feel apart of the project while giving back to the neighborhood.
The building was built around 1900. The exterior of the building has been updated and weather-proofed. The first floor of the building was completed in 2012 and we are now pushing to move forward on the main floor and the balcony.
Word crews are able to help with a huge clean out of the building, scraping plaster, re-plastering, electrical, framing out rooms and more. Times and dates can be scheduled based on individual preferences.

Mission Statement
EVO's mission is to build social, racial and economic bridges to connect communities, organizations and people for the enhancement and transformation of all in the East End of Pittsburgh, PA to include Bloomfield, Garfield, Friendship, East Liberty and Lawrenceville. According to the UPMC 2000 census, there are over 2500 children in the targeted areas living below the poverty level.
Description
. EVO offers the following programs for "at-risk youth":
* An After-School Program - academically served more than 50 children throughout the '19-'20 year
* A Summer Day Camp - (80+ children) academic in the morning; recreational in the afternoon for 10 weeks, 10 hours daily
* High School Diploma for adults due to missing their opportunity as a teenager to complete their education.
* The ELM Program (serves 5-10 youth per year) Employment is offered to the youth, Learning is a requirement and Mentoring follows.
* Feeding the hungry- more than 30,000 meals have been served to children 18 and under in the last year free of charge. 94% of the children attending the local feeder school that we most predominantly work with are part of state free and reduced lunch program.
* EVO has also recently purchased a property known as The Greater Pittsburgh Temple, (corner of Pacific and Friendship Ave.) for the purpose of developing a community recreation center for the racially diverse children, youth and families of the local neighborhoods. The preservation and restoration of this building will cost more than $2,000,000. We believe the restoration of this building will help unify these diverse communities through volunteer help and ownership due to the programs provided by EVO. At present there is no place offering the type of services envisioned by EVO in the near East End (Bloomfield, Garfield and Friendship).
