Be a Side Helper with TRI!
Our students reach their full potential with the help of their side helpers and horse leader!

Volunteers are needed to work as side walkers with a horseback riding therapy program for children and adults with special needs. All volunteers must:

  • be 14 years or older.
  • be 5'4" or have comparable reach,
  • be physically capable of walking with some jogging in sand for 45 minutes
  • be compassionate, good listeners and dedicated to their volunteer experience
  • Volunteers do not have to have any horse experience.

Classes take place in the evenings (Monday - Thursday and Saturday mornings) during five sessions ; spring, summer I, summer II, fall, and winter. Volunteers are asked to work at least one evening/day during a session. Volunteers are asked to work at least one session a year.

Side Helpers are teamed with the same student for the duration of the 8 week session and are an integral part of that student's success. Regular attendance is critical.

CRITICAL NEED FOR DAYTIME VOLUNTEERS: TRI teams up with local organizations and schools to provide field trips and regular programming between the hours of 10am - 4pm. Volunteer commitments for daytime programming could be 1x a month or 1x a week.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help in our summer classes in the evenings and weekends. Get trained to be eligible to volunteer in Session 4 starting this September. Once you are trained, you are able to jump in at any time.

All volunteers must attend a volunteer training program. Our next training will be on Friday September 21st from 10am until 12pm. RSVPs required to Sam at SLape@triohio.org.
