You can change a child's life by becoming a mentor. In just 30 minutes per week, you can make a lasting impact in the life of a child. Children need positive role models. They need a resource, a confidant, a friend. Someone to help them make positive choices in life. Someone to help them think about consequences before they act. They need someone who will listen. They need a mentor. They need you.

All mentors are required to complete an application, attend a virtual one-hour orientation, and receive a background check. Mentors meet with their mentees in person or virtually once a week at least three times a month during the school year. They meet in person at the student's school during their lunch period.

Take Stock in Children helps children from under-resourced families stay in school, earn a high school diploma, graduate from college, and enter the workforce. Enrolling students as early as sixth grade, Take Stock in Children offers each child a college tuition scholarship. The children in the program sign performance contracts agreeing to get good grades (C or better), exhibit positive behavior, meet with their mentor, and remain drug and crime-free.

Description

Take Stock in Children is a comprehensive program that helps children from under-resourced families to succeed by providing volunteer mentors, college readiness coaches, early intervention, college success support, parental involvement, and tuition scholarships for college and vocational studies. Our program provides a long-term strategy to make a permanent, positive change on a community-wide basis. The children who graduate from our program are equipped to help themselves, and their families, throughout their adult lives. The program succeeds by collaborating with the Palm Beach County school districts and volunteer mentors who dedicate their time to our students throughout the school year.
