You can change a child's life by becoming a mentor. In just 30 minutes per week, you can make a lasting impact in the life of a child. Children need positive role models. They need a resource, a confidant, a friend. Someone to help them make positive choices in life. Someone to help them think about consequences before they act. They need someone who will listen. They need a mentor. They need you.

All mentors are required to attend a 90 minute orientation, receive a background check and meet with their mentee at their school during their lunch period once a week at least 2-3 times a month.

Take Stock in Children helps children from low-income families stay in school, earn a high school diploma, graduate from college and enter the workforce. Enrolling students as early as sixth grade, Take Stock in Children offers each child a college tuition scholarship. The children in the program sign performance contracts agreeing to get good grades (C or better), exhibit positive behavior, meet with their mentor, and remain drug and crime free.

Mission Statement

The mission of Take Stock in Children is to passionately promote personal worth, self-responsibility, and academic success for deserving low-income children by providing a unique set of resources including mentors, scholarships, long-term support, student advocacy, and a guaranteed educational opportunity.

Description

Take Stock in Children is a comprehensive program that helps children from low-income families to succeed by providing volunteer mentors, case managers, early intervention and long-term support, parental involvement, and full-tuition scholarships for college and vocational studies. It is not a band-aid approach, but a long-term strategy to make a permanent, positive change on a community-wide basis. The children who graduate from our program are equipped to help themselves, and their families, throughout their adult lives. The program succeeds by collaborating with the Palm Beach County school districts and volunteer mentors who dedicate their time to our students throughout the school year.
