The volunteer horse leader's primary responsibility is management of the horse riden by the physically and/or mentally challenged rider. Before a volunteer can become a horse leader he/she must:
1. Exhibit knowledge of horses and horsemanship
2.Observe experienced leaders during a session
3.Attend at least one orientation session
4.Become familiar with the TSR horses and their characteristics.
Sessions are 3-10 weeks long (10 week sessions in the spring and fall and a shorter session in the summer and winter).
Sessions are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and Tuesday afternoon. Potential additional days and time including weekends. Help is needed for any of these sessions.
Please call Nancy Radosta, Volunteer Coordinator, at 410-604-2290.

Mission Statement
PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE - special individuals receiving a very specialized therapy to help them develop physically, emotionally, mentally and socially.
Description
Talbot Special Riders (TSR) was organized in 1981 to provide therapeutic horseback riding to mentally and physically challenged individuals. Our curriculum is adjusted to the individual needs/requirements and/or capabilities of our clients, both children and adults. Our goal is not to turn out great equestrians, but to build confidence, self esteem, a sense of accomplishment, increase attention span and develop the ability to take, understand and follow directions. We work on coordination and spatial relationships, as well as stretching and strengthening exercises. Thus individuals can better realize their potential and find a place in our society in which to lead a productive life.
TSR is accredited by Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) to insure accepted and safe techniques in the implementation of the therapy. The TSR instructor is also certified by PATH.
No knowledge of horses is necessary to volunteer, just a caring heart and the desire to work with others.
We emphasize abilities, not disabilities!
