Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE - special individuals receiving a very specialized therapy to help them develop physically, emotionally, mentally and socially.
Talbot Special Riders (TSR) was organized in 1981 to provide therapeutic horseback riding to mentally and physically challenged individuals. Our curriculum is adjusted to the individual needs/requirements and/or capabilities of our clients, both children and adults. Our goal is not to turn out great equestrians, but to build confidence, self esteem, a sense of accomplishment, increase attention span and develop the ability to take, understand and follow directions. We work on coordination and spatial relationships, as well as stretching and strengthening exercises. Thus individuals can better realize their potential and find a place in our society in which to lead a productive life. TSR is accredited by Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) to insure accepted and safe techniques in the implementation of the therapy. The TSR instructor is also certified by PATH. No knowledge of horses is necessary to volunteer, just a caring heart and the desire to work with others. We emphasize abilities, not disabilities!
