Fort Raleigh National Historic Site nestled on the Outer Banks of North Carolina seeks enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about the NPS mission and protecting cultural resources. You will play an active role in the stabilization of the reconstructed 16th century earthen fort. The right candidates will perform routine maintenance of the structure including but not limited to:
- Refilling holes within the earthwork
- Reseeding and watering the entirety of the earthwork
- Debris removal from the ditches and trenches.
About Fort Raleigh
The park visitor center holds recently renovated museum exhibits and artifacts dating to the first English settlement attempts in North America and a Freedmen's Colony during the American Civil War. Walking tours and interpretive programs are offered throughout the day and can attract crowds of 60+ visitors.
The position is flexible; however, we ask that you are a local volunteer that will be available for the remainder of the summer season. Horticultural or gardening experience is preferred.
