Homestead National Historical Park is looking for photographers who will capture images of modern homesteading activities for use in social media campaigns (Facebook and/or Twitter). The Volunteer photographer will allow Park to use images and will get photo credit for all images used. A brief description of each photo needs to accompany the submission. Time used researching photo opportunities will count towards volunteer hours. This is a remote opportunity. Position Overview Support habitat restoration, gardening, historic building maintenance, and/or trail maintenance projects by performing any number of related tasks. Activities may include, but are not limited to, removing weeds and invasive vegetation, pruning vegetation, clearing trails, collecting trash, and performing basic construction work. Support historic research, visitor services, exhibit enhancement, and learning opportunities by contributing your time with any number of related tasks. Activities may include assisting with research, academic project development, photography, videography, and event staffing. Minimum Commitment Volunteer activities to be accomplished over a minimum period of 2 hours and maximum of 8 hours on any given day. Goal / Outcome of Job: To assist park staff on various projects in the park. Opportunity to work alongside park staff and help care for our local national park. Join us at Pictured Rocks Au Sable Lighthouse to experience and connect with visitors about the maritime history! Lighthouse volunteers work 5 days a week at the Au Sable Light Station. The tour of duty is late morning to early evening, generally Wednesdays - Sundays. We normally provide tours for some 1,200 - 1,500 visitors a summer though many more hike to or through the site which is on the North Country National Scenic Trail. Volunteers operate the information center and small maritime museum. They also assist with the interpretive tours. The seasonal park ranger/interpreter works with the volunteer regarding training, information sources, etc. There must be two volunteers and housing is shared. This entails either spouse, significant other, or good friend. These positions are month long commitments. Positions available in June, July, August, and September. Volunteers will be working in close coordination with park staff on job and duties for the park to explain the historical and cultural significance of Millbrook Village to the public. Provide short tours of the structures and village grounds. Possibly appear in short film segments showcasing the skills and activities at Millbrook Village. General maintenance of exterior and interior of buildings. Landscaping and gardening as needed. Jobs may include helping to clean and catalog items in the village for record keeping, demonstration use of historic tools and devices. When not wearing period costumes, all volunteers will be identified by wearing park issued uniform items.
