Vegetation Program Field Assistant 2024-25

Vegetation Program Field Assistants support the park botanists, vegetation ecologists, invasive plant technicians, and other staff with fieldwork at Joshua Tree National Park. We are currently recruiting volunteers to help with seed collection projects in late summer and early fall 2024. There may be other opportunities to continue volunteering with the vegetation program when the seed collection season ends.
Other tasks could include:
- Botanical surveys
- Rare plant monitoring
- Specimen identification
- Invasive plant identification
- Invasive plant treatment
- Outplanting
- Data recording
Volunteers must be able to hike at least 6 miles on various terrain, be able to bend and squat down to the ground repeatedly, be able to lift and carry 10 pounds, and have outdoor experience in a desert environment.
