ORGANIZATION: CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

Position Summary: The Natural Areas Program manages a system of nature preserves totaling over 12,000 acres across Northeast Ohio. Our mission is to identify and protect the best remnants of native habitats present in the Lake Erie and upper Ohio River drainage prior to settlement. As such, data management and geographic data collection is critical to our work. The Volunteer GIS Technician will assist Natural Areas Staff in the gathering, processing, analyzing, and organizing of GIS data and other field data.

Responsibilities:

· Assisting with the creation of GIS maps for use in the field

· Providing assistance and advice as it pertains to GIS software and hardware usage

· Assisting with calibrating and trouble-shooting GIS hardware and software.

· Assisting with developing and updating a geodatabase for the purposes of organizing and expanding the Museum’s digital resources.

· Assisting with integrating the data collection and data management efforts of the Natural Areas Division with that of the Research and Collections Division and others within CMNH.

Requirements:

· Must have strong GIS skills including an understanding of ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, and Field Maps.

· Must have experience working within a geodatabase.

· Must be familiar with the use of MS Office software, namely MS Excel and MS Word.
