The Board of Directors provides leadership, direction and oversight for the DuPage & Chicago South Suburbs ReStore organization. ReStore is a retail operation that supports the DuPage & Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity affiliates through the sourcing and retail sale of home goods and construction materials.

It is a governance board, not an operational one, which means that Board members aren’t expected to carry out the day-to-day operations. The Board works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that the affiliate does its best work to pursue its mission. Board members are key advocates, thought leaders and ambassadors and act responsibly as the organization’s stewards.

Board members commit to the following:

  • Term: 3 years from the time of appointment.
  • Attendance: Attend at least 75% of board meetings, committee meetings, and special events. The Board meets bimonthly in a hybrid format, offering in-person and virtual attendance opportunities. South suburbs of Chicago and DuPage County locations for in person board meetings.
  • Build and sustain a competent board: Recruit candidates, help orient new members and regularly evaluate board performance and areas of needed improvement.
  • Fundraising: Annual give/get requirement for each board member. Make a personal donation or request a donation from your employer. Share the names of prospective donors, assist in cultivation activities, and make solicitation visits and stewardship calls. Participate in the planning and marketing of special events.
  • Involvement on committees: Serve on standing or project-based committees.

Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is seeking to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity, founded in 1976, is a global Christian nonprofit organization that grew out of an intentionally multiracial community in rural Georgia. Working alongside each other, we help families and individuals build and improve places to call home and achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Habitat seeks to engage volunteers who have a willingness to affirm these principles and values.
