Insect BioBlitz

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Three Rivers Park District

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join our team of naturalists as we search for bugs! Together we will survey a variety of insect species and other invertebrates. We will dedicate an hour at each habitat to explore the park to gather, identify, and document invertebrate species. All levels of knowledge are welcome and valuable.

What is a bioblitz? A bioblitz is a collective effort to observe and document as many kinds of organisms as possible on a single day within a set area. For this bioblitz, we are interested in learning about what kinds of insects live at Mississippi Gateway Regional Park.

Come and learn how we explore different habitats and the tools that we use to survey different kinds of species. Professional entomologist will be onsite to help ID.

Check the schedule below and join us for your favorite habitat or for the whole day!

  • 9:00 - Program starts - meet outside visitor center
  • 9:30 - Prairie and Marsh land (insect sweeping)
  • 10:30 - Pond and Flood Plain (pond dipping)
  • 11:30 - Upland Forest Berm Trail (walking survey)
  • 12:30 - Lunch
  • 1:30 - River (River dipping / walking the shoreline)
  • 2:30 - North Trail Oak scrub (insect sweeping)

No need to RSVP, just show up when you want and leave when you want!
