YOUR ACTIVITY: Looking for an opportunity to familiarize yourself with our facilities and learn more about what we do at LA Family Housing? Join us for a Volunteer Training + Tour! You'll get a crash course in the causes of and solutions to homelessness as well as how to utilize trauma-informed care when interacting with people transitioning out of homelessness. You'll leave armed with more knowledge and better able to make a real difference! You'll also be cleared to join any volunteer opportunities where our participants are present.

If you are not able to attend this in-person event, please feel free to check out our virtual Volunteer Seminar + Training conducted through Zoom.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) you earn from participating in this volunteer opportunity:

  1. Planning and organization

  2. De-escalating techniques

  3. Empathy

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to attend this in-person meeting in North Hollywood

  2. Comfortable with walking/standing for an extended period of time as this is a guided walking tour.

  3. All ages are welcome. Anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

We do not fulfill court-ordered volunteer hours.

Mission Statement

L.A. Family Housing (LAFH) works to help families transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services. Founded in 1983, LAFH served more than 2,500 people living in poverty this past year through its multiple housing and supportive service programs, and has served over 100,000 people since its inception. In total LAFH owns and operates 21 properties, including three homeless shelters and 18 permanent rental properties. LAFH provides temporary housing, including the Sydney Irmas Transitional Living Center, for families who require additional time for achieving sufficient independence to secure permanent housing. These transitional living programs offer: * Six Months to Two Years of Transitional Housing * Food Services * Case Management * Mandatory Savings Program * Full Range of On-Site Supportive Services
