YOUR ACTIVITY: LAFH needs you to make Sandwiches! Volunteers are needed to make sandwiches for LAFH's outreach efforts. Volunteers would purchase the necessary ingredients to assemble sandwiches at their living place and deliver them to LAFH. Preferred sandwiches include Peanut butter and jelly, Ham and cheese, and turkey. Please be aware that if you are participating in this volunteer opportunity to fulfill volunteering hours, every 20 sandwiches equals 1 hour of volunteering. We do not fulfill court-ordered volunteer hours. If you need a donation receipt, please inform us. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA) YOU EARN FROM PARTICIPATING IN THIS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Planning and organization Reliability Empathy Creative thinking Assembling REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to purchase the ingredients to make the sandwiches. LAFH will not be providing ingredients for you to make the sandwiches. Must be able to assemble the sandwiches at your place of residence or other location other than LAFH facilities. Must be able to deliver sandwiches to our LAFH office during selected hours of operation. We will not be able to pick up donations. Before you drop off any sandwiches, please email Volunteer@LAFH.org to confirm the date and time of your drop-off and the quantity of sandwiches delivered. Below are acceptable days and times to schedule a delivery to LAFH. TIMES OF DELIVERY: Monday-Thursday from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM Must be individually wrapped. Bring the holidays to families transitioning out of homelessness! IMPACT Let's face it - the holidays are expensive and families transitioning out of homelessness may not have all the resources needed to make the holidays special. By lending us a hand with the different components of this party, you can help provide a joyful holiday our families. PROGRAM OVERVIEW Join our team of elves for a festive celebration where we'll have delicious food, gifts, holiday-themed activities, Santa Claus, and a lot more. Whether you're up for lending a hand with activities, checking participants in, or just being part of the fun, your help would make a huge difference. REQUIREMENTS Volunteers must be 18 Must be able to carry 15lbs Must be COVID-19 vaccinated Must complete Volunteer Seminar Training Must not have received LA Family Housing services for a year. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This is the first shift for the event, running from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Only bring items that you can keep with you, as there won't be storage available. We cannot take responsibility for any belongings that may go missing. If you're unwell, please inform us so we can remove you from the volunteer list. We prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone involved. If you intend to bring a friend, ensure they're registered. Only those on the volunteer list will have access to the event. QUESTIONS? QUICK OVERVIEW Sort donated items and get your steps in at one event! We need your help organizing in-kind donations from our generous supporters so we can quickly get them into the hands of those who need the most items. IMPACT Sometimes our new residents come in without necessities like clean, properly fitting clothing or basic hygiene items. LAFH occasionally receives whole truckloads of items, but we need your help quickly sorting them into type, size, etc. so we can get them out to participants right away. VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Sort and organize in-kind donations from our generous supporters and help us create basic need kits to distribute them to our participants. You will be working with us to open boxes, sort hygiene items and necessities together, organize stored donations, and create hygiene kits and welcome home baskets. REQUIREMENTS Must be comfortable standing and lifting (up to 20 lbs) Wear closed-toe shoes and be ready to get hot and dusty! Must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination Did we mention you'll get hot? Bring some ice water! How you will help: Volunteers will support LAFH staff with one of the following tasks: greeting attendees and guiding them through the various vendors and stations that are available at the event, handing out in-kind supplies from the LAFH table, this could include various items like backpacks, hygiene items, PPE gear, clothing, etc., setting up and/or breaking down the event tables and tents, and engaging with attendees while they wait in line for services, any other small tasks needed by staff (e.g. as a runner). What to expect: Upon arrival you will check in with an LAFH staff member who will give you your assignment for the day. Whether that's greeting people as they arrive, helping fill out forms, or running the check-in table. Please come with a positive attitude and weather-appropriate clothing. Questions?
