The Black Student Pharmacist Organization (BSPO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering black pharmacy students and professionals. We provide resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to enhance the academic and professional success of our members. BSPO is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as the Volunteer Executive Director of Retention. This position plays a crucial role in developing and implementing programs to support member retention, foster mentorship opportunities, and strengthen campus connections.

Responsibilities:

Retention Programs - Develop and oversee programs and initiatives aimed at supporting the retention and engagement of BSPO members. These programs may include mentorship programs, leadership development workshops, social events, and academic support resources.

Mentorship Initiatives - Establish mentorship programs to connect BSPO members with experienced professionals in the pharmacy field. Facilitate mentor-mentee relationships, provide guidance, and track progress to ensure the success of these partnerships.

Campus Liaison - Serve as a liaison between BSPO and pharmacy schools, student organizations, faculty, and administration. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to advocate for the needs of BSPO members and promote collaboration on initiatives and events.

Member Engagement - Develop strategies to engage and involve BSPO members in the organization's activities and initiatives. Identify opportunities for members to take on leadership roles, participate in committees, and contribute to the organization's mission.

Team Building - Recruit, train, and manage a team of volunteers or committee members to assist with retention efforts. Delegate tasks, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Data Analysis - Collect and analyze data on member satisfaction, participation rates, and retention metrics. Use this data to assess the effectiveness of retention efforts, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.

Event Planning - Coordinate and oversee events and activities designed to promote member retention and engagement. Ensure that events align with the organization's mission and objectives and provide value to BSPO members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy or related field (required).
  • Previous membership in BSPO during pharmacy school (preferred).

  • Experience in mentorship, program development, or student leadership roles (preferred).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the pharmacy profession.

The mission of the Black Student Pharmacist Organization (BSPO) is to effectively recruit, serve, and retain underrepresented minority students studying pharmacy by enhancing their academic experience through various systems of support: Informational/Education, Academic, Social, & Community Service.

Description

The Black Student Pharmacist Organization (BSPO) is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded on February 19, 2019 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City by two students, Essence Daniels-Brewer and Charley Edwards. Essence and Charley started BSPO with the goal of supporting and enhancing the academic experience of Black students. The purpose of BSPO is to provide a space for Black students to feel a sense of community and belonging.

BSPO now has chapters at 3 universities across the United States all with the vision to revolutionize pharmacy education by championing inclusivity and diversity. We will achieve this by advocating for fair admissions policies, supporting diversity initiatives, offering scholarships, fostering networking opportunities, and expanding our impact to universities nationwide. Our goal is to create a future where the pharmacy profession is marked by equity and excellence.
