Volunteering at a senior bingo game with a hospice patient can be a rewarding experience for both you and the patient.

  • Complete any necessary background checks, training, or orientation required by the hospice organization.
  • Meet the patient: Introduce yourself to the patient, and get to know them a bit before the bingo game.
  • Assist the patient: Help the patient get settled at the bingo game, assist them with their bingo cards, and help them mark their numbers if needed.
  • Socialize and have fun: Engage in conversation, laugh, and enjoy the experience together!
  • Follow hospice guidelines: Be mindful of the patient's needs, boundaries, and any specific guidelines provided by the hospice team.
  • Debrief with the hospice team: Share your experience and any observations with the hospice team to ensure the patient receives the best care.

Description

The purpose of a hospice volunteer is to provide emotional, social, and spiritual support to individuals who are terminally ill and their families. Hospice volunteers aim to improve the quality of life for patients in hospice care by: 1. Offering companionship and friendship 2. Listening to patients' concerns and stories 3. Providing emotional support and empathy 4. Assisting with daily tasks and errands 5. Supporting patients' spiritual and religious needs 6. Helping with light household tasks and meal preparation 7. Running errands and doing shopping 8. Providing respite for caregivers 9. Supporting patients in achieving their end-of-life goals 10. Creating a sense of community and connection Hospice volunteers work alongside hospice professionals to provide comprehensive care and support, focusing on the patient's well-being and comfort. By sharing their time, compassion, and skills, volunteers make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones during a challenging time.
