ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Disaster Finance (DF) team This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or perform work in a Red Cross facility. Deploy to Disaster Relief Operations and provide testing of financial controls and expense monitoring. Monitor specific areas of the financial control environment such as purchasing, warehousing, and financial assistance. This will be accomplished using tools, checklists, processes and procedures of the American Red Cross.



Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Finance AD on the operation (or Chief if position is filled on the operation) to identify those areas with the greatest financial risk. Escalate any concerns to the Finance AD (or Chief if position is filled on the operation) as soon as possible.
  • Perform review and monitoring of specific areas of the financial control environment on the Disaster Relief Operations (DRO) such as purchasing, warehousing and financial assistance and to escalate any concerns to the Finance AD (or Chief if position is filled on the operation) as soon as possible. As assigned, conduct conversations with Group and Activity leads such as Logistics Facilities, Supply, Transportation, and Warehousing and Staff Services-Lodging to ascertain if procedures and processes are being followed.
  • Document financial control review results on the Finance Manager checklist. Keep DRO Financial Controls Assessment tool updated weekly or at direction of Finance AD or Chief.
  • Provide guidance to DRO staff on financial controls. Ensure that Finance is seen as finding solutions to delivery of service. When necessary, work for mitigation of the financial control issue in collaboration with the Finance AD or Chief.
  • Adhere to all finance policies, procedures and practices of the American Red Cross.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Understanding of financial control environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing situations with flexible and creative approaches.
  • Ability to take direction from an off-site supervisor and to manage various stakeholder interests while not hindering the organization’s ability to deliver services.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Drive, Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Complete the American Red Cross Disaster Finance DRO Finance training program.
  • Access to a phone, computer and internet access.
  • Willingness to travel independently to remote work locations to assess financial controls
