VolunteerMatch is the Web's largest volunteer engagement network. We need your help to best support the nonprofits we serve.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented volunteer to support our engineering and product teams to help with writing API documentation. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial part in ensuring our APIs are well-documented, easy to understand, and accessible to developers and stakeholders. Your support will help other developers integrate our technology seamlessly, and contribute to the success of our projects and the achievement of our mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with our product and engineering teams to understand the functionality and features of our APIs.

  • Create detailed and clear API documentation, including endpoints, request/response formats, error codes, and usage examples.

  • Develop guides, tutorials, and best practices to assist developers in using our APIs effectively.

  • Review and update existing documentation to reflect new features and changes.

  • Ensure documentation is consistent, accurate, and adheres to industry standards.

What We Need
  • Be enthusiastic and passionate about the VolunteerMatch mission

  • Strong understanding of GraphQL APIs

  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience with technical writing or documentation, particularly in a software development context.

  • Familiarity with API documentation tools and formats (e.g., Swagger, Postman, OpenAPI).

  • Ability to work independently, with follow-through on commitments.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to contributing high-quality work.
