ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Fund Development department, and specifically the Data Systems and Solutions Support Team. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. This position has 2 roles:

  • Onboarding: The onboarding process welcomes the volunteers to the department, introduces the volunteer to how the department supports the Red Cross mission, provides basic understanding about the scope and duties of their position, and sets the volunteer up for success. As such, the Onboarding and Engagement specialist works with the new volunteer to establish a positive relationship between the department and their Volunteer Supervisor. Additionally, they will ensure that the onboarding steps are being completed for every volunteer.
  • Engagement: The Engagement Specialist is there to continue a positive, healthy, impactful, and rewarding volunteer experience relationship by engaging with our volunteers to ensure we are matching assignments that align to their motivation, interests, and availability.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities for the onboarding process from start to finish. Activities can include but are not limited to:

    • Management of Opportunity Queue- Review new applicants from Volunteer Services, update and maintain Volunteer Connection database.
    • Create, post, interview and fill departmental volunteer positions utilizing the onboarding tool, Volunteer Connection.
    • Support a process where department interviews and accepts or rejects the volunteer referral within seven days by the volunteer supervisor.
    • Conduct department introduction and overview.
    • Work with the volunteer supervisor communicating system access progress and IT issues for new volunteers. Responsibilities for continued engagement. Activities can include but are not limited to:
      • Work with volunteers to establish a regular engagement meeting based on their needs.
      • Report weekly on project statuses, volunteer hours, and statuses of the volunteer themselves; Provide support to new volunteers.
      • Provide feedback to Red Cross on the process.
      • Assist with Engagement of volunteers.
      • Maintain internal tracking documentation, checking in with volunteers and Red Cross staff team lead on a regular basis.
      • Provide coaching and guidance that supports supervisors in creating a healthy environment for the volunteers to excel in their role.
      • Eventually mentoring a more junior onboarding and engagement specialist.

Qualifications:

Required:

    • Enthusiastic about Red Cross mission and programs
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Consistency and Dependability
    • Cultural sensitivity to diverse audiences
    • Comfort working independently while also being a team player
    • Relationship building skills
    • Working collaboratively with staff/volunteer partners
    • Experience in interviewing, selecting, and onboarding employees or volunteers
    • Experience in engagement of employees or volunteers
    • Understanding the value of volunteers
    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
    • Ability to coordinate and organize multiple functions and activities within deadlines
    • Comfortable using a computer, phone, and access to internet at home
    • Microsoft 365 experience
    • Submission of current resume
    • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
    • Must reside in the United States

    Preferred:

    • Knowledge and understanding of Red Cross services and operations and opportunities for volunteer service
    • Experience in providing orientation or introductory trainings
    • Completed Volunteer Supervisor training
