We are seeking a passionate and experienced Volunteer Data Science Mentor to guide our group of data scientists. This volunteer position requires a 3-month commitment with the option to renew. The ideal candidate will mentor the data science team as they collaborate with our full stack developers to build recommendation models aimed at improving the user experience of our C2C travel app. This role requires expertise in model development, database management with MongoDB, and experience with Jira for project management.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Mentor and guide a team of data scientists working on various data sources and APIs.

- Provide expertise in developing and implementing recommendation models to enhance user experience.

- Collaborate closely with full stack developers to integrate data-driven solutions within the app.

- Ensure best practices in data science methodologies and model development.

- Oversee the management and optimization of databases, with a focus on MongoDB.

- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data processing and model performance.

- Utilize Jira for project management and tracking tasks.

- Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science and recommend new tools and technologies.

- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all data science processes and models.

**Requirements:**

- Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role.

- Strong background in machine learning, data mining, and statistical analysis.

- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.

- Hands-on experience with model development and deployment.

- Expertise in database management, particularly with MongoDB.

- Experience with Jira for project management.

- Familiarity with cloud services like AWS or Google Cloud is a plus.

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and guide a team.

- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- Experience with building and deploying recommendation systems.

- Knowledge of big data technologies and frameworks.

- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
