Do you enjoy cooking and serving 4 course meals with friendly people? Are you ready to make a difference in Woodland Hills serving our unhoused neighbors?

Together: Partnering with the non-profit New Friends Homeless Center, you'll be serving a delicious 4-course meal to our unhoused neighbors. New Friends will brief you on the courses that will be served that evening, which usually consist of soup or salad, an appetizer, a main course & a dessert, plus a drink of choice ( coffee, water, lemonade). Your presence and volunteering will help meet an immediate & urgent need for a meal and share care and connection. Being friendly and ready to serve are the main requirements!

Why this project matters: Our unhoused neighbors will receive a choice from a 4-course warm, freshly-cooked meal, hot coffee, water, lemonade ( or similar drink). Guests will be primarily indoors in a dining room. When we work with fellow volunteers to meet the urgent needs of people living outside, our entire community benefits.

Wear: Please wear clothes you don't mind getting some food or drink on. Wear a hat and or pull your hat back if it's long. Wear closed-toe shoes and leave your jewelry and bags at home. If you've volunteered with us before, feel free to wear your Better Angels T-shirt to show your support!

Tools: New Friends will provide all necessary supplies.

Age: All ages are welcome. Teams with members younger than 16 will participate with their guardians, during the shift.

What We Will Do

  • Take public transportation, walk or park in any available public space.
  • The entrance is through the side parking lot. There is a door to the kitchen and a gate ( once kids are out of school) to enter the building. If you arrive early, contact April or knock on the last door facing the side parking lot.
  • Sign in and get assigned your cooking, setup or serving duties.
  • Get the tools and instructions you'll need.
  • 3:30 pm shift is for setup, cooking and meal preparation ( April will reach out for this shift in particular)
  • 5 pm shift is for serving meals, coffee, drinks, donation table, and cleaning up.
  • After: Share your experience with the onsite volunteer coordinator and find other ways you'd like to serve. We will also send a brief survey to you after the event.
