Role Description:

As a Volunteer Legal Consultant, you will provide as-needed legal guidance and support to ensure our organization complies with applicable laws and regulations. Your role involves advising on various legal matters as they arise, assisting in the review of contracts/ agreements, policies, and other legal documents. You'll work closely with our leadership team to identify and mitigate legal risks, protect the organization's interests, and support our mission of promoting health and happiness within our community.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one state in the United States, with eligibility to practice law in the jurisdiction where the organization is located.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing law, preferably with experience in nonprofit law, contract law, healthcare law, business law, or related areas.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws governing nonprofits, including tax-exempt status, governance, fundraising, employment, contracts, and intellectual property.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and communicate them effectively to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Experience advising nonprofit organizations on legal matters, including formation, compliance, risk management, and governance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external partners, and outside counsel to address legal issues and achieve organizational objectives.
