Description

Lighthouse Tour Volunteers join Park Rangers on 2-hour long boat rides across the Boston Harbor. They maintain a safe environment on the vessel, help answer any questions, and assist with preparation and tear down.


ABOUT THE PAVILION:

The Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center is the first official gateway to Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area. The purpose of the pavilion is to provide visitor information and orientation about the park, park ferry, and park programs as well as provide information about activities on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, and the Boston Waterfront.


Work Location:

Boston Harbor.

Meeting: Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center Pavilion on the Rose Kennedy Greenway (151 W. Atlantic Ave. Boston, MA).


Time Commitment:

Lighthouse Tour Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 3 shifts for the 2024 season (shifts available June -September). Shifts are scheduled in 3-hour increments. Volunteers are needed on Fridays and Saturdays.


Major Duties:

  • Welcome and interact with passengers.
  • Assist park staff with passenger check-in procedures.
  • Assist park staff in escorting passengers as a group to Central Wharf for boarding of vessel.
  • Assist passengers in complying with captain/crew instructions.
  • Mingle with passengers, answering questions, sharing maps, and graphics.
  • Point out areas of interest for passengers.
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff, volunteers, and passengers by adhering to safety and health regulations (see section below).
  • Ability to assist in emergency situations up to level of training and comfort.
  • Communicate supply needs and updates to supervisor(s) as needed.
  • Sign up for shifts and log appropriate hours in a timely manner.
