ORGANIZATION: High Plains Environmental Center

High Plains Environmental Center

High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) is a nonprofit (501c3) focused on environmental education and stewardship. HPEC was founded in 2001. It was the inspiration of two developers McStain Neighborhoods and McWhinney. The founders donated 76 acres of land to HPEC and created funding mechanisms based on fees for development, and residential home sales to help offset the cost of managing the conservation land. These have contributed to the growth of a 2.5-million-dollar endowment fund. HPECis committed to engaging people with diverse points of view (environmentalists, business people, and community members) in an inclusive dialogue about preserving and restoring the natural world.

Our Mission: The High Plains Environmental Center works to educate communities to become replicable "living laboratories" which demonstrate restorative examples of land-stewardship, native plants, and wildlife habitat.

We are seeking new board members with knowledge or expertise in:
  • Nonprofit governance, regulation, and compliance
  • Business development
  • Financial accounting
  • Legal issues: conservation easements, property rights, human resources, nonprofit
