Cardinal Hospice care is looking compassionate individuals to become bereavement support volunteer. Come and be an essential part of our interdisciplinary team that offers comfort care to our hospice patients. A bereavement support volunteer provides emotional and practical assistance to individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one. These volunteers play a crucial role in helping people cope with their grief and navigate the challenging process of mourning.

Here are some ways y bereavement support volunteers contribute:

  1. Listening and Emotional Support:
    • Volunteers lend a compassionate ear to grieving individuals, allowing them to express their feelings and memories.
    • They provide empathy, understanding, and a nonjudgmental space for people to share their emotions.
  2. Follow-Up Calls and Check-Ins:
    • Some volunteers make regular follow-up phone calls to survivors. These calls help identify any ongoing needs or issues related to grief.
    • By maintaining contact, they ensure that grieving individuals feel supported even after the initial loss.
  3. Assisting with Grief Support Mail-Outs:
    • Volunteers may help prepare and distribute grief support materials, such as brochures, pamphlets, or newsletters.
    • These resources provide information on coping strategies, counseling services, and community support groups.
  4. Participating in Grief Support Meetings:
    • Bereavement support volunteers may assist our Bereavement Coordinator in organizing and facilitating grief support group meetings. These meetings allow participants to connect with others who have experienced similar losses and share their stories.
  5. Memorial Service Preparation:
    • Volunteers contribute to agency memorial services by helping with logistics, planning, and coordination.
    • They create a supportive environment for families and friends to remember their loved ones.
  6. Educational Outreach:
    • Some volunteers use their personal experiences to educate hospital staff, parents, and others about grief and bereavement. Their goal is to improve patient care and raise awareness about the emotional needs of grieving individuals.
