Hospice volunteers provide patient care and support services through companionship. These services include reading to the client, watching movies, talking, and whatever special talents you may bring! We love matching volunteers to clients with similar interest. Do you play an instrument, sing, knit, or etc? Why not share your talents with members in hospice care who would enjoy your company. This position does require some travel and is not available for volunteers under the age of 18 unless accompanied by an adult.

We have multiple locations to volunteer all across the state of North Carolina. Come and be an essential part of the interdisciplinary team that offers comfort care to our hospice patients. We have in person and "virtual" volunteer opportunities available for anyone 16 years or older. In Person volunteers have face to face companionships; you can talk, listen, read and play games with our patients. "Virtual" volunteers have the opportunity to volunteer from home and write cards or become a pen pal with patients all across the state. All volunteers have the opportunities to assist in planning events, activities and administrative work. Come and spend time with our patients and listen to their life stories, share interests, or just be a silent presence in the room. Volunteering for us can take up as little as few minutes of your day to write a card or spend a few hours visiting patients! PLEASE READ OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERING. A "VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER" HAS LESS REQUIREMENTS COMPARED TO AN IN-PERSON VOLUNTEER.

Stitch up some good Want to add a personal touch? Join The Cardinal Hospice Care Craft team, which knits, sews, crochets, and quilts gifts for hospice patients. Don’t sew? That’s okay-they have a no-sew blanket project, too. The organization has a number of other ways volunteers can support our aging community. If you paint, draw, or work with collage materials, try creating some room decorations for patients that are bed bound! What an amazing way to help brighten someones day. Got a way with paper and pen? Check out our pen pal program.

We have volunteer opportunities located all across the state of North Carolina! Come and be an essential part of the interdisciplinary team that offers comfort care to our hospice patients. We offer regular in person opportunities in which you will be talking, listening and interacting with our hospice patients. "Virtual" volunteers are able to send Cards/letters and become pen pals with our patients from the comfort of your own home. All volunteers have the chance to assist with event, activity planning and administrative work when possible. Come spend time with our patients and listen to their life stories, share interest and be a compassionate volunteer today! All volunteers are required to pass a NC background check and complete our online training course. There are no other requirements for "virtual" volunteers. For in person volunteers, you must also have an up-to-date TB Skin test, or otherwise known as a PPD skin test. We offer these free of charge and have Medical/Religious exemptions. All underage volunteers require parental or Guardian consent/ supervision. Must be 16 years or older
