Medical Screener volunteers join the blood collections staff at local blood drives. As a volunteer, you will collect and confirm donor demographics and health histories, determine procedure eligibility, and conduct physical exams (oral temperature, pulse, blood pressure). This volunteer position provides you with the opportunity to validate your training and skills at a nationally recognized organization while providing service to your community.
Responsibilities:
- Screen and examine blood donor candidates to approve or defer for health concerns.
- Collection and confirm donor demographics, determine procedure eligibility.
- Conduct physical exam to include oral temperature, pulse, BP and hematocrit according to procedure.
- Facilitate and evaluate self-administered health history.
Time Commitment: Minimum of two shifts per month after training.
Training: This position requires significant training (approximately 80 hours) including virtual, classroom, and on-the-job instruction. All training is provided free of charge.
Qualifications:
- No medical background necessary.
- Willingness to support the Red Cross mission.
- Customer service experience, effective verbal communication and public relations skills are required.
- Computer skills required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
