On average: 7 people die every day from a home fire, most impacting children and the elderly. More than 30 people suffer injuries from home fires every day. More than $7 billion in property damage occurs from home fires every year. Swift action during a home fire can be life-saving, and it all starts with early detection through smoke alarms and practiced escape plans. By becoming a volunteer with our Home Fire Campaign (HFC) team, you have the opportunity to play a vital role in saving lives and reducing injuries caused by home fires. As a team member, you will install smoke alarms and provide vital home fire safety information to those requesting assistance. You'll also participate in organizing Sound the Alarm events through door-to-door canvassing and appointments, all aimed at enhancing home fire safety. Help make a difference by delivering blood products to someone who needs them to live. Volunteer Transportation Specialists deliver blood donations from collection locations to the processing center and out to hospitals where it can be used to save lives. As a Transportation Specialist, you are a vital part of saving millions of lives each year by simply driving blood products where they need to go in our region. Requirements: Position requires a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to lift approximately 45 pounds. Most routes travel between cities (often several hours away), so we are in significant need of volunteers who would be willing and able to drive in winter conditions. Time Commitment: Route lengths and times vary, but routes average 4-8 hours roundtrip. We ask for a willingness to commit to 2 or more shifts per month.
